Are we allowed to mention the ‘C’ word yet? Well, only 4 more weekends until our ‘C’ break.
At Ashby, Blaby put in a strong performance against Measham’s Tridents, but Tridents didn’t let them get too far in front and gained a valuable LB for their effort.
Swadlincote Swifts and Gracedieu Diamonds (together with Ashby Fire) have been battling it out for the top spot of Division 1 this season, and no match has been closer than this one. Diamonds and Swifts drew the first 3 quarters and it all came down to Q4. A hard fought match, but Diamonds pulled it out of the bag from somewhere in Q4 and managed to get a comfortable lead to secure the win.
Hinckley Hornettes and Coalville Rockets finished the morning at Ashby, with Hornettes fielding just 6 players. However, this did not stop Hornettes and they showed us why they are currently top of Division 2 with another decisive win.
Meanwhile at Newbridge, Swadlincote Starlings and Whitwick Ignite started in the cold Sports Hall. Starlings had a strong start and had only conceded 2 goals by half time. A change from both teams at half time saw Q3 be Ignite’s best quarter and Starlings’ worst, however, Starlings adapted to the change and finished strong.
Measham Mermaids had a great start in their match against Bosworth Thorns, but by Q4, Mermaids were floundering; Thorns chased the lead but ran out of time.
Whitwick Flames and Overseal were on court at 11.30 and a closely fought match saw a goal draw in Q2. Overseal came back from half time determined to extend their lead and did just that, but not without giving Flames a LB.
Finally, Gracedieu Gems and Donington Diamonds had the afternoon session. Despite Diamonds’ determination, Gems were just too dominant and took a convincing win.
Well played everyone.
