Cup Round 2.2

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas break and all the cheese and chocolates have been eaten.

New Year, new teams through to the Cup/Plate Quarter-Finals.  Newbridge hosted 8 teams this morning with 2 Cup matches and 2 Plate matches.  Now we are in the knock-out stages, only 4 teams would get through to the QFs.

PLATE – Gracedieu Gems and Overseal had a great start to the day with Gems dominating until half-time but Overseal came back from the break refreshed and ready, going from 5 goals down at half-time to a 9 goal win.  Gems didn’t stop fighting though.

PLATE – Whitwick Flames faced Coalville Jets.  A one-sided match saw Jets storm ahead to make it through to the QFs.  Whitwick did not give up and kept fighting until the end.

CUP – Ashby Flames took on Measham Mermaids. A good match, Measham’s defence put on a strong performance but were just not able to stop Ashby’s shots on goal finding their target.

CUP – Ashby Fire and Donington Diamonds finished the day’s matches.  A well contested match, played in good spirit but Ashby were the much stronger team (front runners of Div 1).  Hopefully Diamonds can take away the experience they have gained in their first season in the Cup/Plate.

Congratulations to both Ashby teams for progressing into the next round of the CUP and to Overseal and Coalville Jets for progressing onto the next round of the PLATE.

Commiserations to Gems, Mermaids, Donington, and Whitwick Flames for being knocked out.

The draw for the Quarter Finals will take place later this week.  The Quarter Finals will take place on 10 February 2019 at Newbridge High School, so winning teams should put this in their diaries.  There will be 2 Plate and 2 Cup matches with 1 team from both the Cup and Plate getting the 3rd and final Bye to the Semi-Finals.
