Match Reports – Week 4 – 29.09.19

Week 4 and the games are heating up.

Hornettes Gold v Whitwick Flames
WF – A lunchtime meeting today for Flame at Ashby against Hornettes Gold new to the NW League.
A quick, exciting first quarter saw Gold break away 16-11. It was end to end, but the stand out factor was excellent shooting from both teams. At the end of quarter 2 it was 20-29 to Gold. A few positional changes in quarter 3 saw Flame up to 29 but Gold stayed strong and they remained 10 ahead on 39.
The last quarter saw Flame not giving up with the score finishing 39-53 to Gold.
MVP was awarded to our super shooter Leanne Cooper who did so well against a really strong defence !
Thanks to the refs for helping make the game enjoyable and flow smoothly.
Well done everyone 👍🏻  Flame 39 Hornettes Gold 53
HG – Hornettes Gold met Whitwick Flames in the final match at Ashby. A new looking Whitwick team showed intent from the start & Hornettes had to ensure they kept possession of the ball & mistakes to a minimum. Q1 saw Hornettes 16-11 ahead. From then on the quarters were pretty end to end with Hornettes just edging each quarter. Final score 53 – 39 to Hornettes doesn’t reflect how even the match was. Well done Whitwick for a very enjoyable game. Players Jess Pickering from Hornettes & Leanne Cooper from Whitwick x

Ashby Fire v Coalville Rockets
Ashby Fire took to a slightly slippy Court on this soggy Sunday. Playing Coalville Rockets. We took a little while to get into our stride but once we found it there was no stopping the defence who found a way to pin down a very tall shooter. Getting interceptions, working the ball down the court with some great play into the circle to convert. The GS was on fire again rarely missing. Final score 74-28

Gracedieu Diamonds v Blaby
A well fought match with hustle and bustle from both sides. Diamonds got out in front early and stayed there for the duration, however at one point Blaby were only 2 behind spurring us on to make our plays tighter and stronger.
An injury in the 2nd quarter meant Diamonds moved the team around in the 3rd to accommodate, but the new formation worked well.
2 quarters won by each showing the strength of both teams, Diamonds player of the match Alexa was truly amazing as GK/GD showing us how “easy” an interception should be!
Final score of 39 – 34 to Diamonds, a very close match that could easily have gone either way!

Swad Swifts v Hornettes Black
Swifts have a great second match of the league – final score 61 – 31 to Swifts. There was some great attacking play from Hornettes, challenging our defence and some fantastic shots from the shooters! It was a very enjoyable match with great sportsmanship throughout. Well done to Danni Taylor and the GA/WA from Hinckley who were our GOG’s and a big Happy Birthday to Emma Deloughery, Swifts GK!

Gracedieu Pearls v Overseal
Amazing game for Overseal
Some brilliant interceptions from our defenders and amazing shooting
Unfortunately Overseal were the stronger team today and had a brilliant win.

Swadlincote Starlings v Measham Tridents.
Up until last night Swad only had 1 shooter available but Abby Withers became available. Our GOG Heidi Johnson, came on for the last quarter and it was her first game for Starlings. Swad played well, but Chris shooting for Tridents didn’t miss! Final score 21-34 to Tridents.
