Match Reports – Week 21 – 16.2.2020

Despite flooding around the county this weekend all of games managed to go ahead

Whitwick Ignite vs Hornettes Gold
Tough game for ignite today against Hornettes Gold. Playing with 6 for some of the first Qtr but we played our own game and played well. Great with for the opposition and a fantastic MVP for Becky Krych.

Whitwick Flame vs Ashby Tornados
Well storm Dennis didn’t stop play for the early match ! A very close first quarter with all the shooters on fire ! We went into the 2nd quarter 12-13 but after a strong attack from Ashby, Whitwick were 20-27 behind. Flame didn’t stop attacking and kept Tornadoes on their toes. The final score was 36-49, it was an excellent match with great marking ! MVP was awarded to Ashby Centre Louisewho never stopped ! Our Centre/WA Abby was also awarded MVP.
Thankyou to the umpires 😊

Bosworth Roses vs Overseal
Roses faced a tough Overseal team today. It started evenly but Overseal were 4 in front after the first quarter. By the second quarter we had found our feet and we managed to draw this one with tighter defence. Unfortunately at the start of the 4th quarter we had a player badly dislocate her finger and so this left us playing with six players and no way of hanging on to a close score line. It wasn’t our day! Well done to a strong Overseal team.

Swadlincote Starlings vs. Measham Mermaids
Swadlincote Starlings won 37-17. Despite the driving wind and rain and 1 Starlings player rerouted due to flooding, they started strongly. Great interceptions by C Annabelle, meant there were lots of turnover balls which Starlings were able to capitalise on. Starlings managed to be consistent, scoring 10 goals in each of 3 quarters. A good win for Starlings, let’s hope it last for the final 2 games.

Donington Diamonds vs Measham Tridents
A close game played in excellent spirits. Measham took an early lead and were up going into the 2nd quarter. Donington began to come back during the second and shortened the lead. Despite Measham’s excellent defensive line up Donington pulled ahead for the rest of game due to some excellent defensive play and shooters gaining confidence. Great work in centre court drove Donington on to hold on the lead for the rest of the game. Very close game. Well done to Jess Corden for player.

Swadlincote Swift vs Ashby Ice
Both teams started strong, Swifts took an initial lead but over the first 15min Ashby brought it back and took the first quarter 11-9. A quick quarter time team talk, Swifts refocused and started the 2nd quarter looking more like themselves. All players worked the ball down the court with some great feeds and goals scored into a strongly contested circle; swifts winning the second quarter 28-15. Now the momentum was set and Swifts dominated in the following quarters winning 53-25, although Ashby never dropped the intensity throughout the whole game. A great game to play and congratulations to GOGs Rebecca Randell and Nicola Shales
