After what feels like a long summer, the season has kicked off with a bang. For the first time ever, there were 6 matches taking place, over 2 venues and everyone was ready to take to the court.
Newbridge:
New team Donington Diamonds had a great starting game against Overseal which could have gone either way but Overseal took the win. Hinckley Hornettes and Gracedieu Gems both fought hard and wanted to win their first match, but Hornettes had the edge when it came to getting the ball through the net. Whitwick Ignite and Measham Mermaids both had a slow start, with Mermaids taking a narrow lead but with a tumble and an ankle breakage at the start of the 2nd half, the match was stopped and the 2nd half will be played at a later date. Swadlincote Starlings and Bosworth Thorns had the last match. A big thank you to all teams and umpires for their patience whilst we waited for an ambulance and ultimately moving Sarah safely from the court and thank you to Newbridge for allowing us to have the court for later than booked. When the match got underway, it was yet another closely fought match, ending in the season’s first draw (which is very rare, if the previous season is anything to go by).
