Match Reports – Week 6 – 13.10.19

Back to the Cup/Plate Group Stage matches, and some very interesting results…

Donington Diamonds v Coalville Rockets.
First quarter was very close with the rockets being up 2 by the end of the 15mins. The 2nd quarter saw us push ahead slightly winning it by 1 goal at half time. During the third quarter the Diamonds moved the ball around the court better using channels, space and timing effectively resulting in pulling away and taking the lead against a strong opposition. Finally, despite being exhausted we held our own and finished with 7 up. We felt it was a great sporting game and really enjoyed playing the Coalville Rocket ladies. Coalville Rockets gave our GA, Joanne Peel player of the match. 35:28 to Diamonds

Swadlincote Swifts vs Melbourne
SS – Swadlincote Swifts had a strong match against new to the league Melbourne. Swifts had a great start, working well together as a team and the first quarter ended 21-3. Although Melbourne had some fantastic long shots throughout the match and worked patiently to get the ball down the court, the determined defence of Emma Deloughery, Helen Rollo and Sarah Ashley saw some brilliant interceptions to prevent shooting opportunities. Calm play throughout the centre court by Dani Taylor and Rachael Bailey worked the ball brilliantly to the shooters and some good shots from Rebecca Randell and Emily Brockwell meant Swifts were able to secure a solid 78-15 win by the end of the 60 minutes. Well deserved girl of the game to Dani Taylor who showed great skill and speed against a lovely Melbourne team!
M – Melbourne faced a really tough match today, playing against one of the top teams of division one. Melbourne stood strong in the first quarter, maintaining strength in the centre third. The next quarter appeared challenging but Melbourne’s versatility kept the game going. Swad slipped away but Melbourne kept the pressure on. Well played to our newest member Sam, also great defence from Katy T and some awesome long shots going in from Doreen. Well done to both teams!

Ashby Tornadoes Vs Swadlincote Starlings
Swad were down a shooter, Michelle Allton changed position from WD to GA for the game, and played well, making space and shooting confidently.
Swad made changes at half time and altered the play winning the 3rd quarter and bringing it closer, however were unable to keep on the chase and Ashby played strongly taking control of the 4th. Starlings are starting to gel well as a team, as although some seasoned players, we have new and returners this season.  48:29 to Tornados
