Match Day 3

3 weeks in and it’s just getting better

You’ve got to love our League – friendly players, amazing volunteers, a great standard of netball… just love it.

Match Day 3 was another example of a great weekend of netball, with Division 1 back at Ashby School and Division 2 at Newbridge.

Newbridge:

Overseal were determined to keep their winning streak but Gems were not letting them do it without a fight.  First 2 quarters were close with just 1 goal in it by half time, but Overseal just had the energy to pull ahead and by the end of the match had gained an 11 goal advantage.

Donington Diamonds were back for their 2nd match in NWL, this time taking on Measham’s 2nd team, Mermaids.  A slow start for our new team, but the 3rd quarter saw them go from a 12 goal difference to a 5 goal difference.  Unfortunately this was not enough to win the match, but with valuable Quarter Bonus points, Diamonds are making a great impact on Division 2.

Hornettes showed no signs of slowing down and Thorns fell victim to their winning streak. 3 wins from 3 matches put Hornettes top of Division 2.  But there is a still a long way to go, and plenty of matches left to play.

Whitwick v Whitwick finished the day with Flames dominating Ignite. But Ignite are showing great determination and it is lovely to see clubs introducing ‘development’ teams into the League.

Ashby:

Coalville did a great report on their Facebook group which I’m shamelessly nabbing for this post:

“What a tight game! After drawing the first quarter, Jets fell behind in the second and third quarters. A determined start to the 4th saw Jets draw level with the winning goal scored in the last minute of the game. Well played everyone 💙 Player of the match Gayle Wright (C)”

Gracedieu Diamonds v Gracedieu Pearls was another Club derby match.  Newly promoted Pearls played well against their seasoned opponents, but were unable to put away as many goals.  A total of 96 goals over 60 minutes – not a League record but that’s a lot of centre passes!!
