Match Day 4

As September draws to a close, we had a record 7 matches played today with new team Coalville Rockets taking to the court for the first time.  Division 1 were at Newbridge and Division 2 at Ashby School.

Newbridge

Another great match for last year’s Division 1 winners, with a win against Measham Tridents.   Tridents tried to make a comeback but the gap was just too great and Swifts held their own until the final whistle.

Ashby Fire and Ashby Flames took to the court next and it was a great Club battle.  Flames showed us why they had been promoted from Division 2 last season and gave Fire some heat on court (thank you).  Fire came out victorious but lost a precious quarter bonus point.

Blaby v Coalville Jets were next and despite a close start, Blaby were able to pull gradually away from Jets and secured the win.  High intensity match from both sides.

Bosworth Roses took on Gracedieu’s Pearls.  Pearls started the match strong, winning the 1st 2 quarters, but there must have been something in Roses’ half time water because they came back stronger than ever, only allowing Pearls 10 goals in the last 30minutes and taking the win for themselves.

Ashby:

You have to give everyone at Ashby for the 1st match an award for great sportsmanship.  Overseal dominated Whitwick Ignite, but that should not detract from a great performance from Ignite.  They are determined, learning to play together, using their strongest players to control the game and just need more confidence in the D.  When they scored their goals, the whole sports hall erupted in applause, including the umpires.  There was humour on court and Overseal were gracious winners.

Swadlincote Starlings wanted to emulate Swifts win against Measham’s Tridents in their match against Measham Mermaids and did not fail to disappoint.  A strong performance from both sides, it was a great match.

Coalville Rockets played their first NWL match against Donington Diamonds.  Both new teams did a fab job.  Rockets brought some familiar faces to the court but Diamonds showed how much they had come on from their Back to Netball roots. A great match to close play at Ashby for another week.

Well done to all teams, umpires and supporters today.
