Match Day 10

I’m doing it… I’m saying the ‘C’ word – 1 MONTH TO CHRISTMAS DAY!!!!

And with that out of my system….

Newbridge had 5 matches today.  Thank you Lynda and Jenni for stepping in to help umpire the last match.

Swifts and Jets set the tone of the day with a fiercely close match.  In fact, they each won 1Q and drew 2Q so shared the quarter bonus points…  It all came down to the last 2 minutes of the match.  Swifts had led from the start, but Jets came back in the final Q and with 2 minutes to go, had taken the lead.  However, from somewhere deep inside, Swifts pulled it together and managed to regain the lead by just 1 goal in time for the final whistle.

Measham Tridents and Ashby Flames were next and there is very little between the 2 teams.  Flames took the early lead but again, in Q4, Tridents fought back.  However, there just wasn’t enough minutes in the final Q to catch up with Flames.

Ashby Fire and Gracedieu Diamonds faced each other in the 3rd match.  Division 1 front runners, Diamonds, wanted to maintain their winning streak but they had yet to meet determined Fire. A draw in Q1, Diamonds took the lead in Q2, Fire took the lead in Q3 and so it all came down to the final quarter.  With ‘fire’ in their bellies (ba-dum, tish), Ashby stormed ahead to take the win and stop Diamonds’ winning streak.

Gracedieu Pearls and Blaby were the last Division 1 match.  Blaby have been sitting comfortably in the top half of the Division with Pearls at the bottom of Division 1.  However, with just 6 players who were playing out of position, Blaby had a difficult time on court.  Not taking anything away from Pearls who did a fantastic job taking full advantage of the opportunity and brought home their first win of the season.

Division 2’s Measham Mermaids and Coalville Rockets (the rearranged match due to umpire availability) played at 2pm and whilst no-one likes this late match time, there were still friendly faces at Newbridge.  Another match with little in it, Rockets had an early lead, Mermaids won Q3 but stumbled in Q4 to lose the match.

Ashby hosted 2 Division 2 matches.

Bosworth Thorns started against Whitwick Flames and took an early lead.  Little to separate the 2 teams, it was all to play for, but with 4 Qs won, Thorns took the win after 60minutes.

Swadlincote Starlings and Gracedieu Gems then finished the day at Ashby.  A tough match, Starlings took the first 2Qs and had a healthy goal advantage by half time.  However, Gems came back from the break meaning business and won Q3.  The final quarter and both teams wanted the victory.  Both teams scoring 8 goals in Q4 but Starlings’ strong start secured them the win.

Well played everyone.

Rachel Ridgill – we hope you are ok after your dislocation and you don’t have to be on crutches for too long.
