Match Day 12

HALF WAY THROUGH THE SEASON!!

Division 1 teams have each played 8 matches, facing each other once.  So, at this half way point, we can have a look at the League Table and see where everyone stands.  Whilst it is exciting to see, and I know Carla will be giddy being top of the table with Ashby Fire (unbeaten), anything can happen in the New Year.  New players can join teams, injuries can affect key players, hangovers (!) and illness can make all the difference on Match Day.  It is still all to play for.

Division 2 teams have mostly played 9 matches each, apart 2.5matches left to play.  The League Table could still change and we won’t get a real idea of where everybody stands until the New Year.  Hinckley Hornettes will top the table when all teams have played (as they can’t be caught) and they should be very pleased with their unbeaten first half of the season.

But remember, it is not all about winning the Division: every year we present awards for Best Attack (most goals for), Best Defence (least goals against), Most Valued Player, Best Sportsmanship (my personal favourite), amongst others.   So, don’t be disheartened if matches are not going your way; celebrate being part of a team, club and league.  Something to get up for a cold Sunday morning.

Next week is 2nd round of Cup/Plate matches and so begins the knock-out stages.  18 teams whittle down to 10.
