Match Reports – Week 17 – 12.1.2020

Some more fabulous game play continued on into the second week of the new year,

Donington Diamonds vs Overseal

The Donington Diamonds we’re pleased to see Jo back on court after a few weeks out. We knew it would be a tough match but we saw great energy and defence from the Diamonds to turn the first centre pass around.  Overseal played some great balls around the circle and by the end of the first quarter Donington just had the lead at 16-15.  Strong defence at both ends and injury to GS in second quarter saw Maddie taken off and Emily straight on and working well with Jo in the circle. Still neck and neck and finished the third quarter, 38-38.  Quick team talk we knew we needed to play strong, move the ball around the circle and keep play tidy. Great shooting and play all round resulted in a 55 – 48 win for the Donington  and a well deserved Player of the match to Hayley.
Bosworth Roses v Gracedieu Pearls.
This was a well fought match by both teams. There was strong play throughout the court with both teams mid-court players moving well and bringing the ball to their shooters with sharp, accurate passes. Both shooting ends were working hard for the balls while being faced with brilliant pressure from both defence. Some well placed, long balls into the circle enabled Pearls to take an early lead and Roses defence fought back hard with some tight defence work placing lots of pressure on Pearls. Despite this pressure, the shooting play from Pearls was excellent and they took the win today.

Great play by all.

Ashby Fire vs Blaby
Today Ashby Fire took on Blaby, it was always going to be a tough game. The first quarter was fast and close and both teams were fighting to take the lead. Blaby came out in front after the first quarter. A few tactical changes but everyone in the same position pulled Ashby back the win and the lead going into the second half of the game. The third quarter ended a draw with Ashby only 3 points ahead. Blaby pulled it back to even but Ashby dug in deep and fitness and fight showed Ending the game 54-44 to Ashby. It was our toughest game to date everyone battled hard and fought for everything the whole way through. Great game everyone. I’m proud to be your Captain. Well done to Katie Baker for a well deserved MVP. Thank you to Jenni Sawyer for being our sub and your support. Thank you to Mairi Parsons for scoring and support and feedback. And thank you to Philippa McQuilton for your support and feedback too. ❤️❤️
